Artists Needed: Art Out in the City

Calling all artists and makers! KNOX PRIDE NEEDS YOU! This event wouldn't be possible without all of the gracious donations.

Knox Pride is preparing to kick off a month long list of events for Pride month, and it will all start off with Art Out in the City.

If you would like to donate a piece of art, a gift basket or gift card from your business, or a gift certificate towards a business service, please email art@knoxvillepridefest.org. They will be setting up times and drop offs with each and every one of you.

If you plan on going to one of their Dine Out events that will be picking up soon, please feel free to use that as your time to drop off as a board member will be present.

Knox Pride thanks you for your generosity and they ask that you include a "Recommended starting bid" on each item that you donate as well as business cards that they can include next to your donated item so that those that were not able to win the item can contact you for future business!

Also, don't forget to attend the event! It's free for donors plus a guest. Bring your friends and family and see what else Knoxville and its Pridefest supporters have to offer. There is a $20 cover, ($15 in advace at knoxpride.com), which goes to help keep their Pridefest FREE. With that $20 donation you will get to feast your eyes on some amazing art as well as have some delicious (and complimentary) food, beer and wine. Please bear in mind, volunteers are sorting every piece of clothing by hand. Please only donate items that are still in an ideal condition. Clothing and accessories with stains, holes, tears, etc. will have to be sorted out.

Gather for Gavin Knoxville
Mar

6:30 PM18:30

Gather for Gavin Knoxville

For the first time in history, the Supreme Court of the United States will hear a case on transgender rights. G.G. vs Gloucester County School Board is the case of Gavin Grimm, a trans male student who courageously challenged his school’s exclusionary and discriminatory bathroom policy. The question before the SCOTUS is whether gender identity and expression is protected under Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal law that states: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."

On March 27, the eve of this landmark hearing, we will gather in solidarity with Gavin and in support of the rights of all trans and gender nonconforming students to be protected equally and fairly.

The Knoxville event will begin at 6:30 in the center of Market Square. Positive and affirming signs, clothing, and messages are encouraged! Join to uplift Gavin in our unity and spread love for all young people.

AOK Volunteer Even at Ijams Nature Center

AOK Volunteer Even at Ijams Nature Center

Join All Out Knoxville for our first Volunteer event of the year! Ijams Nature Center is one of our favorite spots in Knoxville and we are getting a group together to help out at their Weed Wrangle event on Saturday, March 4th!

Supervised by experts in invasive weed management from Invasive Plant Control and the Tennessee Exotic Pest Plant Council, community volunteers will learn about invasive pest plants, locate and remove them. Typical unwelcome plants are honeysuckle, Chinese privet, winter creeper, and English Ivy. The goal is two-fold: restoration and preservation. Organizers seek to raise awareness of the “green scourge” before more of our native plants lose the fight for light and nutrients they require to survive.

For our 21+ attendees, join us at Alliance Brewing Company (another one of our favorite South Knox spots) after we're finished volunteering to unwind with some great local craft beer!
https://www.facebook.com/AllianceBrewingCo/

If you'd like to volunteer with our group, please RSVP here so we know to be on the lookout for you: https://goo.gl/forms/nBolF6AsIaTKTXNk2

Participants will park near the Miller Building (after you turn into the main Ijams parking lot, turn left to go down the interior road). There will be signes for Weed Wrangle parking. We recomment wearing long pants and closed-toe shoes, as well as long sleeves (there may be a bit of poison ivy in the clean-up site). Don't forget a water bottle--gloves and tools will be provided.

Find out more about Weed Wrangle 2017 here: http://invasiveplantcontrol.com/weedwrangle/2017/knoxville/index.html
